HEXCROSS
Hexcross, developed by MetaHobby, is a 1v1 strategy puzzle game that goes toe-to-toe and even takes it a step further than the classic tic-tac-toe. Hexcross, a game that will never end in a tie, will have you challenging your opponent on a board formed by 6 dots in a hexagonal fashion. The goal of this game is to get your opponent to draw a single triangle consisting of colored lines. Due to the mathematical nature of the board, each round will never end in a tie, eliminating the annoying “cats game” element in tic-tac-toe. Due to Hexcross’s unique board setup, the dev even encourages playing with just a piece of paper and two colored writing utensils.
While great to play with a friend, the digital form of Hexcross has a single-player version that consists of increasingly difficult trials against a CPU. Each trial gets a little more challenging as it includes chess-like timers (from 15 seconds per turn to 5 seconds per turn), and a more difficult CPU with no undos or go-backs. Each trial even has its own unique name and soundtrack.
I recommend this game to anyone who enjoys a puzzling experience to share with their friends or to those who want to test their mettle, facing off against an ever-challenging CPU. Hexcross is currently available for mobile on iOS and Android, PC on itch.io, and is a TBA release on Steam. As the dev encouraged, don't forget to grab some writing utensils and paper and try it out in a more analog form!
