BOARD OF THE KINGS: A CHESS RPG
Fire Emblem, witty banter, and a chess board walk into a bar; Board of the Kings: A Chess RPG takes all of these elements and gives a twist unique to its gameplay: the concept of chess and turns it on its side, or backward or slower, depending on your experience. It is a game of what can only be described as "asymmetrical chess." By giving new abilities to your game pieces in chess, your teams aren’t as balanced as they should be: like a Queen with extra health and a Rook that can move further than usual.
In Board of the Kings: A Chess RPG, you can customize your team of chess pieces to create a unique strategy. Your court will build personality depending on how you play: they maybe get made fun of if you need to forfeit, but their abilities are maintained throughout the game. Enjoy being reminded of your favorite board games — personified strategy games as you play. While the game isn’t kind to chess newbies, old pros can find themselves relearning what their pieces can do, bringing a welcome challenge to one of the oldest games. And, of course, you will feel free to enjoy the court jester's antics and king’s banter as you meet colorful opponents in tournaments...
Board of the Kings: A Chess RPG was created by a small team. RP Chess Club is a passionate group of developers who met through a game jam. Their team is reminiscent of a real-life chess club, and although their entire team wasn’t present, they were more than excited to ask us in person to interview at MAGwest 2023.
