WAVETALE
Explore an open sea and the decaying archipelago of Strandville in Wavetale, a story-driven action-adventure game by Thunderful Games. Traverse calm waters and surging waves as Sigrid, a young girl who befriends a mysterious shadow that provides her with the power to walk on water. Wavetale introduces you to fed-up fishermen, secretive hermits—and maybe a pirate or two.
What we really found unique about Wavetale was its art style. The characters and atmosphere of the game truly breathe life into the action of riding the waves and beating down the shadow creatures that plague the land.
Currently on Stadia, Wavetale will soon be available on Steam and consoles.
Sam: And welcome back to our PAX coverage here at Game Raven Review. I am with Thunderful, and I have a very wonderful guest that I got to speak to last year, and I'll have him, again, introduce himself one more time.
Kyle: Hi there, everybody. Good to be back. I'm Kyle T. Johnson. I'm the sales manager here at Thunderful Publishing and yeah, again, good to see you.
Sam: Good to see you as well. Again (totally before the recording), you're hitting one-thousand in my book right now: Cursed to Golf, Cult, and all these other games are doing really well. The game that we're bringing out today is Wavetale. Tell us a little about that.
Kyle: Yes, so Wavetale is actually the internal title that we have here at the show. So people from design Zoink Games and Image & Form kind of came together on this one. It is a very story-heavy, art-heavy 3d adventure platformer, I would say, in which you play Sigrid, the protagonist, as she kind of adventures forth and sails the waves.
Sam: Very nice. With this game, right now we're playing it on PC. Is it just PC or would it be going to consoles as well?
Kyle: So, it is actually out now on Stadia but it will be getting a release on PC and console later this year.
Sam: And would you say that was a goal that you guys had in the beginning or were you just wanting to be on Stadia first?
Kyle: Yeah, so we actually collaborated with Stadia on its development. So Stadia did partly fund it.
Sam: Awesome, awesome. Is there any timeframe for the other consoles right now? Or not really?
Kyle: I can say by the end of 2022. But specifics, I can't. *laughs*
Sam: We have a few months, basically. Like four or so months. There’s nothing wrong with that.
Kyle: It's not much time.
Sam: All right, is there anything specifically about not just Wavetale, but like, I don't know, as a whole that you'd like our audience to know?
Kyle: I think one of the biggest things that we try to bring to the table — and I mean, Thunderful has grown so much over the past year alone, and you saw that with our booth — but we really try to pioneer quality. And we really try to bring the developers' vision as far forth as we possibly can. And of course, we work at different levels with different developers but, above all, we really want the quality to shine.
Sam: And I can see that here. Again, we're gonna have pictures of the booth on our website. But, from last year which was like, what, four TVs and maybe a couch, to the wonderful booth now that is just awesome, man. I took a picture of this, but there’s like a giant thing of Planet of Lana behind me. That's just again, amazing. So thank you again for taking the time out with me. I wish you a 3/3 or a 5/5 on all your guys' games, man. And thank you once again for taking this moment with me.
Kyle: Thank you very much. Again, it's great to be back and for all those listening please, if you can, give Wavetale a wishlist.
Sam: Absolutely, absolutely. Wishlist it, buy it on Stadia and do whatever you guys can. Because again, I think Thunderful is a good company, man. Like honestly, the games that will come out: they’re winners. And I can hope and pray that again that continues happening for you all.
Kyle: Thank you very much. Really appreciate that.
Sam: Thank you all for listening. This has been Sam, again, with Game Raven here at PAX West and until next time.
